IUMW held its 3rd Convocation Ceremony at Dewan Tunku Canselor, University of Malaya.

Dewan Tunku Canselor, University of Malaya was abuzz with excitement as graduates and their guests shared their joy during the International University of Malaya-Wales 3rd Convocation Ceremony on December 16, 2017. International University of Malaya-Wales applauded 174 graduates from various faculties who received their awards from the Vice Chancellor of IUMW, YBhg. Datuk Dr. Roziah Omar. The 3rd Convocation Ceremony was officiated by IUMW’s Chairman, Ybhg Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Annuar Bin Zaini.

The 3rd Convocation Ceremony which was held at Dewan Tunku Canselor, University of Malaya, marked a day of celebration for the graduates and it was especially memorable for IUMW Bachelor of International Business graduate, Mohammed Taufiq Bin Iqbal, did his family and lecturers proud when he was awarded the Best Student Award 2017. Mohammed Taufiq Bin Iqbal is currently working as Procurement Specialist at Schlumberger. Noreema Binti Norizan, Anil Sk Nair, Chin Chun Ming and Shahrul Bariah Binti Mustaffa Kamal were among other recipients who received recognition and were awarded as Best Student Award 2017 by Faculty in International Business, Information Technology, Psychology and Professional Communication respectively.

The 3rd Convocation is a memorable milestone for the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL) and the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (FSTEM) since the first cohort of PhD students completed their studies. Two have been awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Business), and the other has been awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Project Management). Dr. Kelly Wee, former Chief Information Officer of Huawei was awarded with the degree in Doctor of Philosophy in Business, being the first cohort of PhD graduates from Faculty of Business and Law. He did his research on determinants, which affect the adoption of Big Data in Malaysia. His contribution of research helps to accelerate on the awareness of Big Data adoption in Malaysia and aligned to the vision of Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) in driving Malaysia to be ASEAN’s leading Big Data Analytics solution hub by year 2020. Currently, he is the Director of InfoPro Sdn Bhd, who is responsible to spearhead the Sales and Marketing operation globally of core banking systems and digital banking solutions, aligning to the Industry Banking 4.0.
IUMW’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Mr. Stephen Griffiths was pleased with the students’ achievements and expressed his high regards for IUMW as a private learning institution. He commended the efforts that were put in by the IUMW students, especially for those who received the Dual Award. It indeed required a lot of hard work and determination to earn the degree from the University of Wales. Mr. Stephen Griffiths explained that the UK educational system is arguably the best possible approach as it not only provides students with theory, but hands-on experience required today. He emphasised that “the IUMW educational approach is second to none, and we are proud to be associated with the University of Malaya and the University of Wales, and that IUMW stands committed in further enhancing the experience through its Alumni all over the world.”
IUMW was established as a collaborative partnership between the University of Malaya (UM) and the University of Wales (UW), UK. Leveraging on the outstanding achievements and academia of both universities, IUMW offers an array of undergraduate and postgraduate courses to local and international students. IUMW also offers students a unique experience, embracing excellence in education at city campus strategically located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. As an initiative to add further value to the students’ experience, IUMW offers Credit-Transfer Mobility Programme, which acts as a platform to promote international mobility among students. Eligible IUMW students can live and study, for one semester, at either the University of Malaya or the University of Wales with no additional tuition fee.
IUMW believes that the higher-education industry in Malaysia has a strategic role to play in developing sustainable communities locally and at the international level.
