As one of the pioneers in the Malaysian Private Higher Education sector, City University Malaysia (CITYU) is playing its role in reducing the burden faced by its students from the ‘Asnaf’ and B40 group by offering a special assistance package called ‘Bantuan Prihatin CITYU’.

Through this program, CITYU aims to aid students who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through the following means:

  • Students enrolling in the February 2021 intake will not have to pay their registration fees in advance;
  • Students have the option to apply for 100% of the PTPTN loan;
  • Students can apply for scholarships from CITYU; and
  • Students can apply for financial assistance from third parties such as MARA, Zakat Selangor, Penang Future Foundation, Malaysia Rubber Council, etc.

Vice Chancellor, Prof Dato 'Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak’s move with City University Malaysia in an effort to help students in the ‘Asnaf’ and B40 categories

CITYU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said, “We believe that during this critical time, the full implementation of the National Education Plan is affected. Nevertheless, we can steer our way back on track by having the public and private sectors collaborate with one another. ”

He also said, “As an educational entity wholly owned by SELIA Group, one of Malaysia's leading Bumiputera-owned engineering and construction companies, CITYU has always adhered to the SELIA Group's aspiration to develop a Bumiputera-owned educational institution that sets new benchmarks in the higher education industry that are in line with the aspirations of the National Education Policy.”

“Therefore, it is our intention that the ‘Bantuan Prihatin CITYU’ initiative will be able to provide practical and appropriate assistance to eligible students. Additionally, in line with our desire to provide more higher education opportunities to Malaysians, all 68 of our programmes across 8 faculties will be made easily accessible and affordable. The university also ensures that the new norm teaching and learning methods implemented will not hinder the quality of our graduates. To facilitate online teaching and learning activities particularly during the pandemic, CITYU will be offering free laptops to eligible students.”

City University Malaysia’s concern to the ‘Asnaf’ and B40 group should be emulated

He added that most CITYU programs can be implemented online, and most can be done part-time. Close cooperation with existing industries forged with 50 strategic partners from various fields and industries will be utilized to enable our students to get industrial training placements or part-time work. Early exposure to the job market can increase students’ employability.

This ‘Bantuan Prihatin CITYU’ is open to eligible SPM and Diploma graduates. Applications are open now till the 21st of  February 2021. For more information and/or any queries, please visit www.city.edu.my/bantuanpkp; or call +603 7949 1616; or email [email protected].
