Yes, securing a job that you like is truly difficult in this day and age. Fresh graduates are constantly being churned out at the multiple tertiary education institutions littered all over the country, and all of them have their own dream jobs. In accordance with that, Jobstreet recently unveiled the top 10 companies Malaysians aspire to work for, which involved 10,241 Malaysians across all position levels, and was aimed to determine what the majority think are the best companies to join, and the reasons behind their opinion. Here, we count down the companies that came out on top.

 

10. EcoWorld

Eco World Development Group Berhad is a public listed Malaysian company involved mainly in property development. The brand is spread across three key economic regions in Malaysia with 18 development projects in total that include new townships, integrated commercial developments, luxury high-rise apartments and green business parks. The Group presently has approximately 8,052.7 acres of landbank with a total gross development value (GDV) of RM87.5 billion. Through Eco World International, the brand has also extended its reach to London, United Kingdom and Sydney, Australia.

The national powerhouse remains the largest power company in Southeast Asia with RM 99.03 billion worth of assets. It serves over 8.4 million customers. TNB’s core activities are in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. Other activities include repairing, testing and maintaining power plants, providing engineering, procurement and construction services for power plants related products, assembling and manufacturing high voltage switchgears, coal mining and trading.

 

8. Intel

Intel is the world’s largest and highest valued semiconductor chip makers based on revenue, and is the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors: the processors found in most personal computers (PCs). Intel supplies processors for computer system manufacturers such as Apple, Lenovo, HP, and Dell. Intel also manufactures motherboard chipsets, network interface controllers and integrated circuits, flash memory, graphics chips, embedded processors and other devices related to communications and computing.

A company known on a global scale to almost everyone, Nestle, a Swiss transnational food and drink company has been the largest food company in the world, measured by revenues and other metrics, for 2014, 2015, and 2016. Twenty-nine of Nestlé’s brands have annual sales of over  US$1.1 billion, including Nespresso, Nescafé, Kit Kat, Smarties, Nesquik, Stouffer’s, Vittel, and Maggi.

Malayan Banking Berhad or more commonly known as Maybank is Malaysia’s largest bank by market capitalisation and total assets and one of the largest banks in Southeast Asia, with total assets exceeding US$165 billion and having a net profit of US$1.75 billion for 2015, Maybank’s network spans across all 10 ASEAN nations as well as key Asian countries and global financial centres with a network of 2,400 offices worldwide with more than 45,000 employees.

The airline’s that pioneered the budget aviation industry has now become one of the most powerful players in the skies. AirAsia operates scheduled domestic and international flights to more than 165 destinations spanning 25 countries and has consistently been named as the world’s best low cost carrier for 8 years in a row in international travel and airline awards, including the latest award for 2016.

 

4. Sime Darby

 Sime Darby is a major Malaysia-based multinational conglomerate involved in 5 core sectors: plantations, property, industrial, motors and logistics, with RM44 Billion in revenue and RM3.1 billion in profits just last year.

 

3. Shell Malaysia

Taking the bronze medal is none other than the petrol provider most commonly associated with the Ferrari Formula One team, none other than Royal Dutch Shell, or more commonly known as just Shell, a British–Dutch multinational oil and gas company headquartered in the Netherlands and incorporated in the United Kingdom. It is one of the six oil and gas “supermajors” and the sixth-largest company in the world measured by 2016 revenues (and the largest based in Europe). Oh, a little bit of trivia, Shell’s logo, known as the “pecten”, is one of the most familiar commercial symbols in the world.

The company that topped last year’s edition of the Jobstreet survey has to settle for second place this time. Petroliam Nasional Berhad, or PETRONAS for short. Petronas is ranked among Fortune Global 500’s largest corporations in the world. Fortune ranks Petronas as the 75th largest company in the world in 2013. Fortune also ranks Petronas as the 12th most profitable company in the world and the most profitable in Asia.

Taking top spot this year is none other than the internet phenomenon known as Google. Alexa, a company that monitors commercial web traffic, lists Google.com as the most visited website in the world. Several other Google services also figure in the top 100 most visited websites, including YouTube and Blogger. Google has been the second most valuable brand in the world for 4 consecutive years, and is well known for its terrific work culture and benefits.
