A Bartender is someone who mixes, prepares and serves alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic drinks at a bar or behind a bar within a restaurant.

As a Bartender, you’ll be seeing and talking to a lot of people. Many people also tend to open up about themselves more when they drink, so keeping up a positive attitude and having great social skills is a plus for you and for the customers. Keeping the conversation going is what makes the customers happy, so it’s important to know the right thing to say and when to say it.

Being able to work under pressure

A Bartender, like employees in most restaurants, must be able to work under pressure. Meeting the requests of all the customers especially during a popular or busy hour can be stressful, but remember you must still keep a positive attitude as this is a service industry and attitude is key. So, if you can keep a huge smile while balancing the pressure of a fast-paced bar, then this job is for you!

Being able to keep the venue organised, stocked and clean

Being a Bartender will require you to be responsible for not only making the drinks, but keeping your ‘station’ clean and organised even after your shift is over. You will be responsible for all the ingredients used to make drinks, equipment such as glassware, strainers and shakers, as well as maintenance and upkeep of the place to attract more customers in the future.
